Hi, I'm Jed

I'm an engineering manager who still writes production code, with nearly three decades working on the web and ten years leading teams and architecture.

That work has taken me through industries as varied as clean energy, manufacturing, and non-profits. I've worked at places you may recognize, like Getty Images and Urbanspoon. And for a long while, if you watched a video on ESPN.com, that was my code.

Along the way I've hired engineers, coached teammates, and led teams. Together we've shipped web apps, design systems, and AI tooling—and deleted millions of lines of code.

I make things on my own, too. For years that was SassMeister, a playground for Sass. Now it's Roughdraft Industries, my one-person studio for single-purpose, tracking-free web apps, like a tip calculator that rounds to a palindrome.

I care about the details. I care about standards and semantics. I care about software that can evolve without a rewrite. Most of all, I care about the people I work with—I write code, but I build teams.
